FUSIC training — what’s going on
We run a structured FUSIC accreditation programme for clinical staff at Salford. Here’s who is involved, what’s available, and how to get involved yourself.

5 modules on offer
4th Thursday monthly meetings
Who we train
Anyone working in or alongside Salford Critical Care who has a clinical reason to scan. There is no grade restriction. We have trained across a wide range of roles:
ICU doctors
Registrars and consultants. Most trainees are at the registrar grade but there is no restriction.
Advanced clinical practitioners and specialist nurses
ANPs, clinical nurse specialists, and senior nurses with a direct scanning role on the unit.
Allied health professionals
Physiotherapists and paramedics working in critical care. Discuss scope of practice with your line manager first.
What’s available
We offer all five ICS FUSIC modules. Most people start with Heart and add modules from there. You don’t need to do them all.

Sessions are arranged around normal working patterns — most trainees scan on non-clinical days or with a trainer during a shift.
Monthly meetings — everyone welcome
We meet on the 4th Thursday of every month, 7–8 pm, hybrid in-person and Teams. The meetings are open to anyone — current trainees, people thinking of starting, and anyone with an interest in point-of-care ultrasound. We review two or three cases, cover a teaching point, and keep it informal. No prior knowledge needed to attend.
Meetings happen every month. Full schedule and past meeting notes →
