Frequently asked questions

Common questions about the logbook, equipment, and process.

I can't get images off the machine. What now?

Check the USB stick is in the correct port (front-right side USB on most machines). Wait for the export to finish — there is a progress indicator on screen. If the USB doesn't appear, try formatting it FAT32 on a clinic PC. Contact the unit admin if the machine is still not exporting.

Do I log one scan per patient encounter or one per view?

One scan per patient encounter. A full FUSIC Heart scan covering all views in one sitting is one logbook entry, not six. The reporting form documents all views obtained in that session.

My mentor is unavailable — can another trainer approve my scans?

Yes. Any accredited FUSIC trainer in the unit can review and approve scans. For competency sign-off, your named mentor should ideally sign, but a second trainer can cover specific competencies they have witnessed.

SonoClipShare won't accept my upload.

Most upload failures are file size or format issues. SonoClipShare expects MP4 or compatible video. If your machine exported AVI, convert it using Handbrake (Fast 720p30 preset) before uploading. If the problem persists, contact the unit admin.

How do I link a SonoClipShare clip to my FUSIC report?

Once uploaded, copy the share link and paste it into the relevant field of your FUSIC report on this portal. The link is visible to your mentor when they review the scan.

I've forgotten my USB stick. Can I scan today?

You should not perform a logged training scan without the means to store images. Borrow a stick from the unit, or defer the scan. Training scans without stored images cannot be verified.

How long does the logbook period have to be?

ICS requires logbook collection (first scan to last scan) within 12 months. Total accreditation can be up to 24 months. Contact the ICS learning team at least 4 weeks before your 12-month window expires if you need an extension.

Can I include healthy volunteer scans?

Yes, but to a limit. Lung: max 10 normals of 30. Abdomen: max 15 normals of 25. DVT: max 10% normals (1 of 10). Heart: no strict limit but a demonstrable range of pathology is required. Course scans do not count toward the logbook.

What are the logbook targets for each module?

Heart: 50 total, 10 supervised. Lung: 30 total, 10 supervised. Abdomen: 25 total, 10 supervised. DVT: 10 total, 5 supervised. HD: 50 total, 20 supervised (plus FUSIC Heart and Lung as prerequisites).
